Our History
Christian Care Centers, Inc. is a sixty year old organization that provides care, housing and services for senior adults in the North Texas area on three retirement campuses. Those campuses/communities are Christian Care Center in Mesquite; Hilltop Haven in Gunter; and Lakewood Village in Fort Worth. Each community has several levels of care and living available. We serve approximately 1200 residents with a staff of 600. Christian Care Centers is the largest not-for-profit provider of senior care, housing, and services in the Metroplex.

Christian Care Centers is a 501(c)(3), tax exempt not-for-profit organization. We provide services to the elderly regardless of race, color, creed, religion, or national origin. Each of our communities has it own on-site management. Christian men and women serve on our Board of Trustees on a voluntary basis without monetary remuneration.

Christian Care Centers’ history began in 1947 with the opening of Hilltop Haven in Gunter, Texas. At that time it was known as “Home for the Aged” and its purpose was to provide housing and care for retired ministers and their wives. Today, Hilltop Haven has the distinction of being one of the first providers (1989) of specialized care for seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders in North Texas. Hilltop Haven has 209 nursing beds for private pay, Medicare, and Medicaid residents. Sixty of those beds are dedicated to specialized Alzheimer’s care. Hilltop Haven is also known for its dedicated, long tenured staff of care professionals. There are also 16 Independent Living retirement apartments on the campus.

Christian Care Center in Mesquite opened its doors in 1973 with 120 nursing beds. Over the last thirty-one years, the 26-acre campus has expanded to five levels of care serving more than 500 residents. Christian Care Center now has 180 nursing care beds in its Health Care Center, 32 dedicated to sufferers of Alzheimer’s Disease. The 61 apartments in Bentley Assisted Living Apartments provide apartments, assistance, and services to residents who need some assistance but not full nursing care. The Courtyard at Christian Care Center, which opened in 2002, is a 44 apartment state-of-the-art Assisted Living certified to care for residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders. Independent Living residents have several options for living on the Mesquite campus. The Hartin and McMillian Apartments provided affordable, rental retirement living with some included and some ala carte services. The beautiful Greenway Village Retirement Community opened in the fall of 2001 and offers spacious apartments, multiple amenities and services that enable active retired seniors to really enjoy life.

Lakewood Village Retirement Community is located on 49 acres in Fort Worth, Texas. This community opened in 1982 and has expanded over the years to a multilevel campus providing three levels of senior living and care. The 159 Lakewood Village Retirement Apartments offer many sizes, styles, and locations. Not only is Lakewood Village a very good value for the size and quality of lifestyle, but the friendly residents embrace and welcome new residents. The 34 Cummings Assisted Living Apartments provide apartment living with extra care and services for seniors who need or want a “little extra help.” The Lakewood Village Health Care Centers provides 24-hour nursing care for the elderly who require this level of care and accepts Medicare and private pay residents.

In 1993, because of a desire to expand our services into the communities and counties we serve, Christian Care Home Health was established. Serving Tarrant, Johnson, Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, and Kaufman Counties; Christian Care Home Health provides skilled nursing, home health aides, and therapy services to the elderly in their own home setting for Medicare reimbursed services. We also provide private duty and sitter services.

Today, the leaders of Christian Care Centers are planning for the next five, ten, and even twenty years as the number of seniors desiring or needing housing, care, and services increase to twenty per cent of the American population.
