Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will Medicare pay for my nursing home stay?
A. Only for short term after a 3 midnight stay in the hospital. Medicare will pay for skilled services , but not routine long term nursing home care.

2. Will I have to give my house to the nursing home?
A. No, you do not give any property to the nursing home. If you do not qualify for Medicaid, then you pay the nursing facility each month from your assets.

3. How do I get on Medicaid?
A. You must complete an application with the Texas Dept. of Human Services. Medicaid should not be confused with Medicare benefits. Medicaid is the State aid that helps pay for Long Term Care while Medicare is the federal program that helps pay for short term skilled or rehab care after hospitalization.

4. Does my doctor have to recommend nursing home care?
A. Yes, you have to be seen by your physician and we will need medical history from your physician.

5. How will my medications be paid for when I am in the nursing home?
A. If you are in skilled care under Medicare, your prescriptions are covered. If you are in Long Term Care under Medicaid, then Medicaid will cover your prescriptions. If you are a private pay, you will be billed separately by the pharmacy for your prescriptions. If you have private insurance that covers prescriptions at home, it will probably continue to cover them in the nursing home.

6. Do you provide transportation?
A. We have a wheel chair accessible van that can transport residents to medical appointments within a 25 mile range. We can also provide non-emergency transfers to and from the hospital.

7. Do you have to be a member of the Church of Christ to be admitted?
A. No, we are open to people from all faiths.

8. Do you have a waiting list?
A. From time to time we have a short waiting list related to specialized care.

10. Do your private rooms have private baths?
